On their last day in Iowa, I took Uncle Chris and Cousin Harper out to the Lake to see Petra, my owl. She lives at the Lake Mc Bride Raptor Center and I adopted her this summer. It was really great becuase I got to use the "whee-whee". That's what I call the backpack carrier that daddy wears when we go hiking in the woods or just raking the leaves at home. I call it that becuase as I float along, finally at grown-up height, I sing, "Whee! Whee!" It makes me so happy I pat daddy on the shoulder and blow him kisses to thank him for the walk along my favorite trees.
We took Harper and Chris to see all the owls and hawks and eagles, but most of all to see my little Petra. She is a Northen Saw Wheet Owl, really cute and small, but can be a fierce huntress. They have updated the information on her cage now to include me as a sponsor! (see below) Pictures of Petra can be found on my previous blogs about the Raptor Center.

Sophie,
Petra is so adorable, small (only a few ounces) but her wings can spread to two feet. Like you and Harper, she is small but mighty! Love, Gran
I enjoyed meeting Petra and all of her friends. What I enjoyed the most was listening to you say "whoo whoo" just like your beloved owls.
Petra is very lucky to have you care for her. I was proud to see your name on her name plate proudly telling all who come to visit her that Petra is "sponsored by Sophie House."
