A Season For Firsts

We enjoyed my first Thanksgiving Dinner last night. Mommy made an amazing turkey and her famous pumpkin soup. Gran added a scrumptious roast duck and Granmimi brought a wonderful mixed berry pie. Even daddy helped with an eggplant side dish. All I ate, of course, was breast milk and applesauce (my first fruit!). But apple sauce is pretty good, especially compared to the squash and carrots I was putting up with before.

But I have had a string of firsts this week. Not only am I sitting for up to 20 minutes at a time (still a little too wobbly), but I said my first word on Wednesday: a very distinct and clear "hi!" after prompting from dad and Gran. I also managed to sleep through the night on consecutive nights for the first time in over 2 months! The first of those two nights, Thursday, mommy and daddy we at a hotel and I was home alone with Gran- my first night without my parents at home (it went very smoothly- I didn't even notice they had left).

On thursday, I had my 6 month doctor's appointment. I got the usual vaccinations (no big deal- I handled them like a champ) plus my first flu shot! I am pleased to report that I have continued to grow at an alarming rate (90% for height) while improving my girlish figure (50% for weight).

I have also changed day care to Apple Tree, which is in downtown Iowa City. It's the same one that Soren Hansen uses- he's the boy that was born in the next room at the hospital 2 hours before me! I really like it- they have lots more toys to play with and a really cool mirror with a bar. It's just like the ballerenia bar in my Angelina Balerina book and my "Dancing with Degas" book! Best of all, its so close to the hospital that daddy can come over and visit at lunchtime. He's been to see me three times in a week. That is SO COOL!

He's the menu from my first Thanksgiving:

Sophie,
You look so cute - how wonderful that you were able to have your first Thanksgiving with Gran and Granmimi in attendance- the menu looks wonderful! You look so cute in your outfit (bold prints and bright colors). I love all the pictures. How exciting you had your first Apple Boo Boo- something to be truly thankful for and your new daycare sounds very nice- lots of toys are a plus.
Well-
In honor of so many first you need your first tree Hugger anti-war song to add to your play list:
This is one of may favorites!
Enjoy!!!
To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to build up,a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time for peace, I swear its not too late

Ada,

I love Turn, Turn Turn! It is one of the songs on my "Sophie's Choices" mix on daddy's Iphone. We often sing it before I go to bed!
