My First Snow!

This photo was taken at the exact moment I saw snow for the very time!

I stepped out of day care in daddy's arms, looked up, and there it was: tiny white flakes falling from heaven, resting gently on my "nose and eyelashes", before melting away into nothing. Nature's beautiful works of art: ephemeral, fleeting, weightless, and wonderous. Daddy and I went home, went out in the back yard, and enjoyed the spectacle. Skye and Denali looked up nervously at the sky but did not venture outside. They have seen snow before, but I guess they've forgotten about it after 8 months.

It kept snowing well into the evening, coating the yard with a gentle, silent blanket. Daddy and I were home alone, since mommy was stuck in a super-long surgery. So we both changed into pajamas, cooked up some comfort food (butternut squash risotto for daddy and pears with rice cereal for me) and cuddled on the couch with the puppies. I think I am going to love winter nights!

Dear Soph,
Aunt Jenny and I have just looked at the pictures of you in the snow and we have melted into a puddle of adoring feelings. You are so beautiful and your expressions and your fathers expressions share the same joy and excitement. We are impressed that you tasted the snow the first time you saw it- we can do lots of cool things with snow like pour maple syrup on it! Happy Turkey day- we miss you and your Mom and Dad- Love, Gran and Nanny Jennny

Sophie!
You are a true child of all things beautiful and natural. I love the picture and by the way doesn't the "new fallen snow" taste wonderful! In honor of your musical reference (to our favorite movie)- Ada has included a musical tribute to your first snow fall:
I am sharing with you a few "of my favorite things":
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my "nose and eyelashes"
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
Love you lots!
Ada
