Dîner Provençal

Gran and Granmimi came over last night, just after Grandad and Boppy left, to make us a wonderful dinner. I am getting so spoiled by having a seemingly constant stream of grandparents surround me for the first 3 weeks of my life. Prior to Grandad and Boppy House (John and Barbara for those not in the know), Grandad and Grandma Chang were here. They were so wonderful: they took care of sisters Skye and Denali and cleaned the house while mommy and daddy stayed with me in the hospital. I miss them already, but I know they'll be back in August!

Gran's dinner was amazing! We feasted on roasted chicken and pork with a garlic plum sauce along with polenta with grlled mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes. Granmimi provided the wine, an Acacia 2005 Pinot Noir Reserve. This estate grown wine in limited release is only available through their wine club. Daddy says that it was one of the finest Pinot's he's ever tasted, rivaling even the great Foley Pinot from Solvang. He described it as an intense spicy fruit flavor, like blackberries and plums doused in nutmeg. It paired with the pork and plum sauce perfectly.

Dinner was so relaxing. I savored the warm evening on the porch with the glowing lateral light from the setting sun trickling through our forest. Sisters Skye and Denali patrolled the porch, scaring off any squirrels that dared come too close to our Provencal feast.

Now I can understand why mommy and daddy love Provence so much. Daddy helped mommy cope with my labor by reading poetry about Provence, watching "A Good Year" on the DVD, and rubbing her feet with lavender oil. I suppose the place is just entwined with my soul since birth!

Next time: Watching the Stanley Cup Finals with daddy!

Since Sophia loves all things provencal and lavendar I think she will like this nursery rhyme...

Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,
Lavender's green
When you are King, dilly dilly,
I shall be Queen

Who told you so, dilly dilly,
Who told you so?
'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly,
That told me so

Call up your friends, dilly, dilly
Set them to work
Some to the plough, dilly dilly,
Some to the fork

Some to the hay, dilly dilly,
Some to thresh corn
Whilst you and I, dilly dilly,
Keep ourselves warm

Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,
Lavender's green
When you are King, dilly dilly,
I shall be Queen

Who told you so, dilly dilly,
Who told you so?
'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly,
That told me so

Dear Sophie,
I miss you already- you are a smart baby, a real princess and an adorable girl. There were sevceral cool things about our visit but two stand out- you holding my finger with your long lean fingers and your eyebrows, which raise independently from eachother- you're channeling Dr Kristi Mom already.

Take good care of your parents - they're ok, too.
Lopve, Gran
